The Commonwealth Games is a multinational, multi-sport event. It is held once in four years. Elite athletes of the Commonwealth of Nations take part in it.
It is organized by the Commonwealth Games Federation. The first Commonwealth Games was held in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada in 1930. Then it was known as the British Empire Games. The name was changed three times. The third and final time it was named Commonwealth Games, in 1978. Besides many Olympic sports, the games also include some sports like lawn bowls, rugby sevens and netball, which are played in Commonwealth countries.
Presently, there are 53 members of the Commonwealth of Nations. The participating teams number 71. Only six teams have attended every Commonwealth games. They are Australia, Canada, England, New Zealand, Scotland and Wales. Australia was the highest scoring team in ten games followed by Britain for seven and Canada for one.
