Would you please do me a favour by keeping your pet-dog chained, or by keeping him where from he cannot possibly run off? Yesterday it ventured into our garden and destroyed so many of our plants and flower­beds. He broke into pieces a few of our flower pots. You know very well how we sweat and labour and prize our plants and flowers. To us they are as dear as our own children.

Moreover, your pet even scares our children when let loose. The other day it scratched a passerby with its paw and scared a maid-servant to crying.
