Duties of the Superintendent:
The Administrative Officer of the Local Education Board is Local School Superintendent. It is a very important post.
If the Superintendent is a public relations officer as well, he can perform his duties successfully because he has to keep contact with teachers, students, local administrators, local social and political groups, and other educational boards.

The Superintendent sees to the implementation of educational programmes, education policies and rules directed by the State. His duties may be summarised as follows:
1. He contacts State Education Board, Department of Education, education officers, and public social associations, political parties, schools, administrators, teachers, students and citizens, for educational development.
2. He gets the prescribed educational policy, rules and education programmes, implemented.

3. He supervises the administration, buildings, needs and progress of the schools. He controls the entire educational activities of the school.
4. He informs the State regarding social tendencies, traditions, needs, interest and ideals of the local people.
5. He collects statistics of educational progress for his evaluation.
6. He secures full public co-operation and assures the people that educational system is being organised according to their needs.

Selection of the Superintendent, Qualifications and Term:
The schools are established by the local public to educate their children in order that they become able citizens of the country. Thus life pattern of future citizens depends on the dedication, capability and ability of the Superintendent.
Therefore, a person of impressive personality, capable of fulfilling his obligations is selected as a Superintendent. Hence it is customary for the State to select to the post of Superintendent a person who is an educationist, studious, efficient, devoted, and experienced in teaching and supervision, capable of establishing public relations, post graduate of a University, man of character, able administrator and a good orator.
Regarding the term, there is no fixed national or state policy. The term depends on the efficiency, temperament, devotedness and public contacts of the Superintendent.
