India has developed a new concept of holiday making by opening Palace Hotels like the chateau tours in Europe. The magnificent palaces of former Maharajas were turned into Luxury hotels.
Kashmir was the first state in India to convert its Maharaja’s Palace into a hotel. Maharaja of Jaipur was the next one to convert his Ram Bagh Palace into a hotel. The Maharaja of Udaipur was the third one to do.
In Rajasthan the Jodhpur Palace, the Jaisalmer Palace and the Bikaner Palace were also converted into hotels. Palaces by themselves are great attractions to tourists. They can get an opportunity to stay in these palaces and enjoy like Maharajas.

Palaces of the former princes in India are now serving as five-star hotels. More than twenty palaces are now five-star hotels.
The Indian Tobacco Company (ITC) entered the hotel industry in 1957 with the opening of the Chola in Chennai. All hotels of to are named after the famous period of Indian history. The Raines Chola, Mughal, Maurya, etc. are chosen from dynasties of life rent periods of history. The name of its hotel in Chennai is
Chola. The Chola kings were known for their patronage of art and culture; the Mughal in Agra has been named after Emperor Akbar; the Maurya in Delhi has been inspired by the famous Maurya Emperor Ashoka.

ITC has two types of hotels Welcome Hotels and Indovilles. All hotels functioning at present belong to the first category. It has plans to have Indovilles which will be low cost hotels. It is a combination of Indian town and village. The Welcome group chain of ITC has at present seventeen hotels.
