Legal Provisions of Section 393 of Indian Penal Code, 1860.
Attempt to commit robbery:
This section prescribes punishment for the offence of attempt to commit robbery. It says that whoever attempts to commit robbery shall be punished with rigorous imprisonment for a term extending up to seven years, and shall also be liable to fine. Where the accused makes an effort to commit robbery and does all that he could do, or at least he has taken all the major steps towards its commission, but the result could not be achieved by him, he has made an attempt to commit robbery. It is important to note that simple imprisonment has not been provided as a penalty under this section.
