Legal Provisions of Section 371 of Indian Penal Code, 1860.
Habitual dealing in slaves:
Habitual dealing in slaves has been made a punishable offence under this section. The section states that whoever habitually imports, exports, removes, buys, traffics or deals in slaves, shall be punished with imprisonment for life or with simple or rigorous imprisonment for a term not exceeding ten years, and shall also be liable to fine.

As is clear from the language of the section habitually importing, exporting, removing, buying, trafficking or dealing in slaves has been made a punishable offence. The offence is very serious as is apparent from the severe penalty prescribed. Sections 367, 370 and 371 deal with slavery.
The offence under section 371 is cognizable, non-bailable and non-compoundable, and is triable by court of session.
