Legal Provisions of Section 284 of Indian Penal Code, 1860.
Negligent conduct with respect to poisonous substance:
Sections 284 to 289 of the Code are similar in nature. This section punishes rash or negligent conduct with respect to poisonous substances. It says that whoever does any act with any poisonous substance in such a rash or negligent manner as to place human life to danger, or to be likely to cause hurt or injury to any person, or omits to take such order with any poisonous substance in his possession with knowledge or with negligence as is sufficient to guard against any danger which is probable to human life from such poisonous substance, shall be punished with simple or rigorous imprisonment extending up to six months, or with fine extending up to one thousand rupees, or with both.

The section requires some act being done with any poisonous substance. It must be a rash or negligent act. Human life must be endangered by it, or it must be likely to cause hurt or injury to another person. If such is not the case then there must be an omission, with knowledge or with negligence, to take such order with any substance which he possesses as is sufficient to guard against any probable danger to human life from such poisonous substance.
The offence under this section is cognizable, bailable and non-compoundable, and is triable by any magistrate.
