Altering appearance of coin with intent that it shall pass as coin of different description:

Alternation of the appearance of a coin with the intention that it shall pass as coin of a different description has been made an offence under this section. According to the section, whoever performs any operation on any coin resulting into alteration in the appearance of that coin, with the intention that such coin shall pass as a coin of a different description, shall be punished with simple or rigorous imprisonment for a term extending up to three years, and shall also be liable to fine.
The section requires that some operation must be performed on a coin which must alter the appearance of that coin. The intention of the accused for doing so must be that the said coin shall pass as a coin of a different description.
The offence under this section is cognizable, non-bailable and non-compoundable, and is triable by magistrate of the first class.
