Section 165 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, which deals with searches by Police Officers, lays down that whenever any Officer-in-charge of a Police Station or a Police Officer making an investigation, has reasonable grounds to believe that anything necessary for the purpose of the investigation may be found in any place within the limits of his Police Station, and that such a thing cannot otherwise be obtained without undue delay, such Officer may, after recording the grounds of his belief in writing, search, or cause a search to be made, for such thing in any place within the limits of his Police Station.
Normally, the Police Officer must conduct such a search in person. However, if he is unable to do so, he may require any subordinate Officer to conduct the search. Likewise, he may also require an Officer-in-charge of another Police Station to cause such a search to be made.
