The following constitute Indian Philosophical traditions these are the views of Dr. S. Radhakrishnan.
1. There is supremacy of the spirit. Endless quest for the realisation of the ultimate is the chief end of life.
2. The ultimate truths are the truths of self and in this context, actual life is to be refined and hence socio-spiritual reformation is to be sought.

3. In Indian thought, the centre of interest is the ‘self ‘know thyself is the basic aim of life. Answer the question ‘who are you’?
4. There is tendency to monistic idealism. It expresses a vast impersonal view and thus advocates free pursuit without being offended by opposition. It is contained in Indian philosophy that your opponent has a right to hold a view which may be different from those of yours.
5. Indian thought is not one-sided. It does not depend upon working state only. The whole truth must take all modes of consciousness into account if waking consciousness gives realistic, dualistic and pluralistic conception, dream consciousness yield subjective doctrines, and dreamless sleep builds, abstract and mystical theories. We can say that it is all inclusive.

6. Philosophy in India is known as “DARSHAN” i.e., SEEING it may be perceptual observation or conceptual knowledge or institutional experience. Here it indicates a thought system where it is to be actually lived.
7. Our philosophic thought is co-extensive. It has a regular continuity. It expresses a deep reverence for the past and hence the hostility element is lacking. In a way, it is highly tolerant.
Because of the idealistic fervour, it may exhibit initial pessimism. But it is not final.
To conclude, spiritualism is the dominant feature of Indian Philosophy and there is firm faith that the entire universe is governed by the eternal moral order. We accept the theory of KARMA, REBIRTH and SALVATION. This salvation is the main goal of existence.
ADVERTISEMENTS:
Indian educational philosophy is idealistic in nature. This has been the theme of Indian educational philosophy right from Raja Ram Mohan Rai to Gandhiji.
