Here is your essay on Bullying !
Bullying is not just physical aggression; it is more of a behavioral problem that forces children or teenagers to use power against someone they perceive as weak.
Bullying behavior is usually intentional and stems in early childhood or elementary school where children start hurting others by use of insulting words or by hitting or pushing them directly.
Kids can be involved in bullying in various forms. They may bully themselves, or get bullied or stay witnesses to bullying. Whatever be the role, bullying is destructive and causes a lot of emotional and physical harm to the child or children being bullied.
ADVERTISEMENTS:
This use of force to scare others or to establish power or abuse others also sometimes starts on grounds of race, ethnicity, gender, social status, appearance etc. The child being bullied can become the target of bullying by a single individual or more than one individual called “mobbing”.
Bullying is a grave problem affecting many students and it becomes even more debilitating when a group of students pick up a student or group to hit and bully on a regular basis. Not just schools, but there are many households where children face bullying within the boundaries of their own homes by elders, especially male adults. A drunken father for example may beat his children after coming back home.
Bullying can involve pushing, hitting, teasing, abusing and spreading rumors about someone. Young children may ostracize a group of children by excluding them from play or other activities or games they play in the classroom. It is a shameful thing for the bullying kids as well as for teachers and parents who fail to check them and prevent their acts from turning violent and more intimidating as they grow.
Kids who are victims of bullying are often the ones who are shy or physically weak to be able to make supportive and helpful friends. Physically disabled children are easiest victims of bullying. Peer abuse is another term used for bullying in school or workplace.
ADVERTISEMENTS:
Bullying amongst students has been recognized but the policy makers have not been successful in addressing the issue amongst students. Even more bullying at workplace has continued to exist and is even more harmful for students who witness it in schools amongst teachers who are role models for them. Even more surprising fact is that sometimes it is the students who bully the teachers in school and not just other fellow teachers.
There are many reasons behind bullying. Dislike for a particular group or a particular child may often result in their bullying. Preventing bullying is as important as recognizing the problem. A person who has been bullied as a child can determine what bullying means.
If you witness bullying in school or workplace, don’t stay silent. Report it to the required authorities by using appropriate channel so that the action can be taken. So once you spot bullying, inform the teacher, counselor or parent who can take a step forward to check the problem and stop such incidents from repeating. If you thought that by getting involved in a physical fight with the bully, you are reducing the pain of the target, it is not the right thinking.
Being a silent witness is not a solution to the problem but instead you should fight for their rights and get them justice by informing the authorities that can take action to stop it from repeating.
ADVERTISEMENTS:
In order to build an environment where children can grow and learn without fear and learn good community behavior, parents, teachers and school authorities have to take the collective responsibility of teaching kids to prevent bullying. Kids should be taught to communicate their problems openly, encouraged to get involved in constructive activities that interest them and also model appropriate moral behavior before them as adults.
Community-wide strategies can also help in identifying and giving appropriate support for children being bullied and also teach them not to tolerate such behavior by their peers. If the energies of the bullying kids are channeled in positive direction such that their feelings and emotions get a vent without making anyone a victim of their bullying acts. Policies should be strict for punishing the children who bully others at school so that they understand the consequences of their acts and abstain from such acts.
Dealing with bullies is really important be it through community led programs or be it through tactics you learned at home, victims must understand that if they continue to suffer, the problem will never end and get worse.
While bullying at school continues to bother parents and teachers like, workplace bullying where unreasonable and unjust behavior is met out to one or more workers is also offensive, humiliating and distressing. This impacts the well being and health of employees and also hampers their job performance and makes the work environment polluted. Bullying at workplace may be related to work or done through personal attacks, isolating socially, giving verbal threats and spreading rumors.
Even workplace bullying is a serious matter and is done through aggression or passive behaviors. Even minor disputes at workplace can turn life-threatening and become dangerous. Noticeable forms that are inflicted include screaming, blaming or threatening by use of physical power. Whatever be the means, the results are never positive.
Discipline can solve the problem at school level but strict policies with consequences must be adopted in workplaces so that employees do not get involved in bullying at direct or indirect level. Bullying incident in workplaces should be reported to the concerned cells. Many corporations and offices also have anti-harassment committees formulated to address issues of bullying or harassment for male as well as female employees at workplace.
Bullying can be prevented and one should definitely not tolerate bullying. Proper support and guidance is important to stop it in early stages and authorities should be agile in building an environment that is safe and secure for everyone.
