Free sample essay on A Visit to a Museum. Every year a big cattle fair is held in Sonepur, near Hajipur in Bihar. It is popularly known as the Sonepur Fair. It is held in the month of September. It is the biggest cattle fair in Asia.
Cattle traders from across the country visit this fair. In this fair cattle from different parts of the country are bought and sold here. It is widely known for the cattle of best breed being sold. People from far and wide flock to the fair to see the finest breed of different animals. One can see here buffaloes, cows, oxen, bulls, camels, elephants, etc.
I, with some of my friends, visited this fair. The visit was altogether a different experience in itself. Besides a variety of animals, other terms of public interest were also displayed. Articles of day-to-day use were being sold in one corner of the fair. It was mainly flocked by the ladies. They were buying things of daily needs. Different types of food items were also being enjoyed by ladies and children. In one side of the fair, the juggler was amusing people with its various activities. Its feats were really marvelous. People were stunned to see his basket trick in which he puts a big basket over a boy’s body and then runs his dagger through it many times. People hear the painful cry of the boy. They also saw the blood-stained sword. They thought that the boy might be dead. But people were surprised when the juggler removed the basket there was no one. The boy appeared from somewhere in the crowd and was quite safe and sound.

In another part of the fair, there was a big merry-go-round, on which men, women, particularly children were having joy- rides. There was a big wooden horse nearby. Small children were having fun with it. Their parents were also enjoying the fair.
At last, I saw a huge crowd. When I went there, I saw a snake charmer who was playing on his flute pipe. The snake was dancing on the melodious tune. It was an awful sight. The snake appeared to be hypnotized by the sweet sound of the flute. When I moved a little further, I saw that there was some wrestling match. The renowned wrestlers of the area had come there to participate in the wrestling. It was really very interesting to see them tugging, pushing and grappling with each other.
This is a big fair. Preparation for it starts a month in advance. People from remote areas come here with their cattle and fetch good money. Many farmers buy bulls of good breed. Some buy cows of superior breed. The cattle were exhibited nicely. They were looking attractive. There were some sadhus in the fair. They were chanting mantras and pious hymns. Some were preaching. The religious minded people were listening to them. The visit was an interesting experience. We enjoyed the fair greatly. Being very tired we came back home in the evening. This fair is helpful in uniting people. It brings them closer.
