A free-time occupation for the sake of fun and pleasure is known as a hobby. Hobbies break the monotony of life, dispel boredom and add charm and thrill to our life. Life without a hobby is like food without salt. That is why today a lot of importance is given to the development of hobbies particularly among children.
Hobby is a pursuit, outside one’s regular work. Basically it is an activity that we do in our spare time. It is the favourite pastime occupation. There are many kinds of hobbies.

Gardening, photography, fishing, painting, flying kites, sculpturing, embroidery, knitting, cooking, shooting, reading books, watching television, listening to music, playing musical instruments, bird-watching, stamp collection, collection of old coins, etc. are some of the most favourite hobbies of the present day. Among these perhaps flying kites, gardening, photography and stamp collection are the most popular.
My hobby is to take photos of beautiful scenery of nature. Actually, I began this hobby a few years ago, when my eldest brother presented me a fine Japanese Camera as a birthday present. Since then, I have treasured this camera as a precious gift and used it to take attractive snaps of natural scenery.
I do not take any picture of nature. Only the unique and special features of nature attract my camera. Scenes such as, an over-flowing river, a fallen tree, children playing in the rain, a mother giving bath to her baby, a butterfly relishing a flower, a bud about to bloom, a cluster of birds flying together, etc. never escape my camera. Sometimes, on a holiday I wander about the whole day, searching for a good snap. Nature has never sent me empty-handed.
My hobby has brought me a good deal of appreciation and social recognition. In the school where I study, I have been recognised as a budding photographer. On several occasions, I have been given the prize for excellence in photography. When my friends and relatives visit my home they all want to see my albums.

Apart from the social recognition it gives me, this hobby also removes all my monotony and dullness of life. It gives me leisure, pleasure, and mental refreshment. When I want to relax my camera becomes my solace and friend.
The satisfaction of having taken a beautiful snap delights me more than anything in the world. My hobby has also encouraged me to think of a career in the field of photography and photo editing, a field where I feel I can excel, and make a mark in life.
Today, my hobby has become part and parcel of my life. It keeps my mind and body occupied during my free time, for, I fully believe in the maxim “an idle mind is a devil’s workshop”. My hobby keeps my mind all the time refreshed and tension-free. It adds colour and zest to my life. I don’t think I will ever give up my hobby of taking beautiful snaps of nature.
