The life-span of human beings are almost fixed. Here the French writer Victor Hugo has spoken on the short span of our life. Actually, human beings developed different areas of interests during its evolution or progress. The expanse of human activities became broader day by day. Today it is at its ultimate best.
In due course of time creations of mankind became so wide that the wills of mankind remained unsatiated when it came to older ages. At that stage of life human beings usually become nostalgic and a sense of missing and losing the material world and their creation leads them to calculate the use of time they did in their whole span of life. After introspection must of the people repent on the way
they wasted time in their life. But this introspection is usually done at the older ages when no repair remains possible. What remains in his side is only repentance and a sense of frustration. This is in the sense in which Victor Hugo is trying to attract our attention. According to him life is very short. Naturally, if we see this world we get ourselves totally unable to move everywhere and do everything. There are many good things and activities in which people may invest their time and so their energy.

It is said time is the most precious thing men and women have got. Since time is irreversible it must be spent with great care. But usually, people hardly care about it. They spend recklessly and so even sit idle. Thus, time should be spent with great calculation and care. Time does not wait for anyone. If it would have been reversible many great histories have been written and rewritten.
Therefore, it is the best way to use time so that we can get most out of it in time. Once time flies it does not get back. And we repent at the end of the tunnel. So, in Victor Hugo’s opinion the short span of life must not be made shorter again by wasting time in our life.
