During August 1986, the existing Twenty Point Programme was restructured. The new programme was implemented w.e.f. 1st April 1987. The Programme was revised in the light of experience and objectives of the Seventh Plan.
Under this the Government renewed its commitment to: (a) eradicate poverty, raise productivity, reduce income inequalities and remove social and economic disparities and thus improve the quality of life. The twenty points of the programme area :

5. Enforcement of Land Reforms

15. Improvement of Slums
16. New Strategy for Forestry
17. Protection of the Environment
18. Concern for the Consumer
19. Energy for the villages –
(i) Rural Electrification (MNP); (ii) Bio- gas plant (HPBD); (iii) IREP.
20. A Responsive Administration.
From the above points it is clear that the war on poverty is the first priority of the Government. Equal importance has also been given to create employment for all.
However, it may not be out of place to add here that complete success can only be achieved with the full support of the people in achieving the above goals. An efficient and clean administration, sincere efforts and public co-operation is the key to removal of poverty and other such targets.
