Measures to Save Energy by Using Efficient Pumping Systems are listed below:
(1) Use low resistance foot valve.
(2) Use rigid PVC pipes instead of G.I. pipes.
ADVERTISEMENTS:
(3) Keep total suction lift within 5 metres.
(4) Match the prime movers (motors) and pump sets properly.
(5) Select proper size of pump set corresponding to the total head and the required quantity of water.
(6) Keep pump and motor shaft in proper alignment.
ADVERTISEMENTS:
(7) Lubricate the pump set at regular intervals.
(8) Provide shunt capacitors of proper capacity of ISI marking.
(9) Keep the delivery pipe as close to the ground level as possible.
(10) Avoid too many joints and bends in suction and delivery pipes.
ADVERTISEMENTS:
It is better to use automatic air vent.
An efficient steam system performs the following important functions:
(a) To discharge condensate quickly
(b) To prevent escape of steam
(c) To discharge air and other non-condensable gases
We must note here that an efficient steam trapping system is very important for highest efficiency of operation of steam consuming equipment.
The steam ways should be fitted in the direction of flow only. To avoid steam locking and air-binding, an inlet pipe smaller than trap size should be used.
It is better to adopt individual trapping than group trapping. The steam trap should be free from pipe scale and dirt. And for detecting leaking steam traps right glass should be fitted after a steam traps.
Energy can be saved by recovering the heat content of steam which the condensate carries with it.
Similarly, the recovery of flash steam from high steam from high pressure condensate can also conserve heat.
