The writer of the poem “Hot and Cold” is Roald Dahl. He is very clear in using his words. It depends on the mentality of person which meaning to go with. This simply reveals the clever mind of the writer.
At the starting of this poem writer says that the girl came in and his mother knows the girl. Here he didn’t explore the relation of him with that girl. Suddenly writer jumps to his next line stating that she took off her clothes. Here he has not declared age of the girl and thus it would be great if positive meaning is taken. These days all media like television and internet has changed the thinking level of all men. In this poem only words are carefully used and those are very helpful to analyze about one’s thinking level.
That girl might be friend of his mother. This seems a bit akin to revolutionize of life that all women pass through. The writer has asked her whether she is feeling cold as she started undressing. He asked genuinely this question as any men would ask if gone through such situation, but the girl nodded and said no. What was her purpose then? What was she trying to do? All questions remain unanswered.
All women in this world face the same problem. No men can understand what is going inside any woman’s mind. Women carry some purpose behind each of their action and those who can guess their thinking can surely win their heart.
ADVERTISEMENTS:
All poems of the writer Roald Dahl carries some hidden meaning that lets everybody wonder. What a breathtaking magic of words! Writer says in the starting that he is still a young and juvenile boy and he is at his house when one of his mother’s friends comes. Then she starts to undress. Here nothing is stated that whether she undressed herself or the writer himself. This is a big mystery for this poem. Then Roald asks her isn’t she feeling cold? At what she answers as no she is hot.
Roald stated that he was young and thus he thought that the lady has same feeling as him. He thought that the woman is feeling cold and that is why she is undressing her. But the lady said no and said she is hot. This might mean that the lady is mean and trying to seduce young Roald, and if she is doing so then she has failed because Roald is too young to understand these things.
This poem is about how we frequently suppose that other people undergo the same way which we do, while they don’t. This is very good message as it encloses the word misunderstanding. All problems in this world have little add up because of this word. It is necessary to clear things on time instead of taking anything for granted. This poem is surely exciting for all youth audience and guiding them how to think on any situation.
