Short Essay on Police – Police is not just the principle executor of the laws but also the primary keeper of peace and order. Its functions include enforcing the laws, enacted by the legislature as well as the decisions of the court, besides, of course, preventing crime.
The Police are the state subject under the Constitution of India. Therefore, it is controlled and maintained by the State Governments. The chief of the police in a state is the Director General. The police force in a State comprises the civil police, intelligence branches and crime branches.
The senior police officers are recruited by the Union Public Service Commission and posted in various States according to the State Cadres. The lower posts are recruited by both State Public Service Commissions and the State Governments through the SPs and DGs.
