The popular Bollywood film star celebrated his 67th birthday in October, 2009, and received unprecedented accolades from not only the film industry but also from those not connected with the films. He has now emerged as one of highest paid film stars in the country. His income from the brand advertisements on the small screen is stupendous.
His fortunes had dipped on account of successive flops and losses in business, but were lifted spectacularly by the popular TV show, “Kaun Banega Crorepati”. His wax figure has been displayed in Madam Tussaud’s museum in London. Politically, he has aligned himself with the Samajwadi Party of Mulayam Singh Yadav and Amar Singh in Jan 2010, he was getting closer to Narendra Modi the Gujarat Chief Minister.

His wife Jaya Bachchan is now a member of the Rajya Sabha. Amitabh also tried active politics for a short while but with mixed results. He was voted as the most popular Indian by readers of Times of India in a poll announced in December 2006.
Mayawati in May 2007 triumphed in U.P. winning an absolute majority. Her victory has cast its shadow on Amitabh Bachchan. He had to surrender vast agricultural property which he had been gifted earlier by the Mulayam Singh government.
His son Abhishek married the popular film actress Aishwarya Rai and the bond makes the Bachchan family a powerful combination in the Bollywood. His mother Teji Bachchan died after a long illness in Dec. 2007.
He continues to be the Matinee Idol, capturing the hearts and minds of his countrymen through his intensive dramatization and performance. He is playing the role of a teenager child in Paa which is suffering from a rare disease Progeria, in the picture; his son Abhishek Bachchan plays his father.

He won the best actor award in the movie at The Screen Awards on 2 Jan 2010. The Bachchan family consisting of Amitabh, Jaya, Abhishek and Aishwarya continues to enthral the spectators. He is also a poet in the mould of his late father Harivansh Rai Bachchan. His role in Ran, a picture by Ram Gopal Verma has been highly appreciated.
