Short Biography of Nani Palkhiwala – Palkhiwala was not just an eminent advocate and constitutional expert, but was a remarkable orator whose post-budget speeches are legendary.
He appeared before the Supreme Court in the landmark Keshavananda Bharati case and persuaded the Apex Court to put limitation on the power of Parliament to amend the Constitution.
The Supreme Court, thus, held that the basic structure of Constitution was beyond the amending powers of Parliament. He was an eminent scholar, thinker, economist and social philosopher and was invited by the then Chief Justice of India, Justice S.R. Das to become a Judge of Supreme Court.

However, he declined the offer. He was India’s Ambassador to the U.S. and represented India before Special Tribunal in Geneva (Austria) and, also, before World Court in Hague (The Netherlands).
He has appeared in several landmark cases like privy purses case, bank nationalisation case, and Bennett, Coleman & Company case.
He was also Chairman to the ACC Group of Companies and was also visiting professor at Harvard University on Income Tax Laws. His book Commentary on Income-tax is widely acclaimed. He left for his heavenly) abode on November 2, 2002.
