Free sample essay on A Meeting Addressed by a Philosopher. It was a big meeting. A great philosopher-saint, Swami Ranganathananda, addressed a vast assembly of school students. In perfect silence the students listened to the thought-provoking, inspiring address of the Swami.
The Swahili’s address may be summed up as follows: ‘Dear teachers and students, I am indeed very happy to talk to you. I have a special attachment to the student community. I would like to tell you that you should give the utmost importance to the age-old truth that you should have the utmost respect for your parents and teachers. If you take their words as words full of advice and benefit to you, you are considered as wise. Indifference to your parents, teachers and elders will pave the way for your downfall.
This is certain. I have seen many boys and girls, who have not listened to their parents’ and teachers’ advice, going the wrong way and spoiling their lives. Your parents have the greatest interest in you. Your welfare and prosperity are their main concern. They make some sacrifices for you. Here comes the spirit of unselfishness. Who else but parents can sacrifice their own good for the sake of their children? There is a saying that just because God cannot be in every home to look after the welfare of the members of a family, He has placed Mothers in his place. Yes, the spiritual qualities of extreme compassion, profound love and unselfishness are unique to a mother and a father.
ADVERTISEMENTS:
Once a husband and his wife along with their three children were going along a forest to their village. As the family was nearing the village it was midday. The husband and his wife saw a tiger coming from afar. They did not know whether the tiger noticed them. Immediately they hid their three young children in a thick bush and stood behind the broad trunk of a tree. They were quite careful to save their children and did not bother much about their safety. The tiger after coming some distance on the road suddenly turned towards a vast open ground on its left side and went away.
After some time the parents took out their children from the bush and hurried to their village nearby. It was a miraculous escape for them from a wild beast. I wanted to tell you this small story only to impress on you how unselfish parents are. There is no one superior to your parents. Obey them and get their blessings and the blessings of your teachers. This is a great truth. I wish you all well. Study well and score good marks. Jai Hind.’
