A policeman is a very useful member of society. His service to society is generally not accepted by the common people to the desired extent. He is perhaps the most misunderstood person in the world.
It is almost impossible to overestimate the importance, necessity and usefulness of the work of a policeman. He is at the lowest strata of his department as well as society. But his work is of stupendous value. Without the presence of the police of which policeman is a representative, law and order would go to dogs. This will result in chaos and anarchy wherein the knaves and ruffians will rule the roost. The whole social fabric would go to winds and the lives of honest members of society would get a beating.
In a situation when there is no law and order worth the name, not only the lives of common law abiding citizens are endangered, but also civilization gets obliterated. Without safety and order, a scientist cannot invent new things, an artist cannot create a work of art, nor can a man of literature like a poet, novelist, dramatist or short story writers write or compose his piece of literature.
ADVERTISEMENTS:
The world devoid of such things as art, science, music, literature, painting, sculpture, etc. is only a primitive world of the savages. This is how the absence of the police of which the policeman is a representative can turn back the clock of civilization.
As an individual, the policeman is not considered of much importance except by the ignorant illiterate poor people. The policeman has to do onerous duties to maintain law and order. He gets only a small salary for this.
Some policemen indulge in undesirable activities such as accepting bribes, joining hands with criminals, etc. We must, however, remember that all policemen are not bad. We must assist the policemen in nabbing criminals and in doing other duties.
