The writing process consists of FOUR major steps
1. Pre-writing

2. Writing the first draft
3. Editing and revising
4. Writing the final copy
Steps to pre-writing may be repeated as many times as necessary;

The student may write, edit and revise successive drafts until he or she satisfied with the work.
It is very difficult to sit down and write effectively without doing an preplanning. This is the most important stage of the writing process Prewriting consists of FOUR parts.
Preplanning

— Brain storming
— Selection of ideas to be used
— Research on the topic
— Compiling of information
Brain storming: At the brain storming stage the student writes down on a piece of paper any information which pertains to the topic and all the ideas which come to his or her mind.
Selection of ideas to be used
After brain storming and research, the students will have many ideas fore the composition. In the second stage he or she has to start selecting the I ideas which will actually be used to organize them in a logical order. The following steps could be followed:-
Group similar ideas – Each group will form one paragraph. Give a title to each group. If the group is too long it should be subdivided into several related groups.
Research: It is important to introduce the technique of doing research to a student in a middle school. Students should read whatever they can about the particular topic and then try to express the ideas in their own words.
(iii) Students should prepare, ask relevant questions, such as who, when, where, why, how and what.
(iv) Students should not write down every word they read. They should select only that information which is important.
(v) Students should note down the source of all information they are writing down.
