Just as a single paragraph should have unity and coherence, a composition with more than one paragraph should also have both the elements. Thus, unity and coherence are needed with in each paragraph and also the entire composition.
Each paragraph should deal with one idea and ideas in all the paragraphs should relate to one topic sentence, Ideas which do not relate to the topic sentence should not be included in the composition.
In other words each paragraph in a composition should be a sub-topic of the main topic whereas. Each paragraph should delve on any one aspect of the main topic. If this can be achieved the entire composition would possess unity. In the same way coherence can be achieved through the arrangement of paragraphs and connectivity between them.

ARRANGEMENT OF PARAGRAPHS IN A COMPOSITION
Paragraphs can be arranged in a composition through:
(i) Chronological order;

(iii) Physical order
(iv) Order of climax
In a composition, each paragraph is connected through transition words and phrases. This creates a smooth flow of ideas which creates coherence.

Coherence is the smooth movement from one idea to the next idea in a paragraph. In order to achieve coherence one must pay attention to two things.
(i) Arrangement of ideas.
(ii) Logical connection between ideas.
