All of us have some lazybones in our life. They could be a parent, a sibling, a spouse, a friend or someone else. In my case, it is my brother. He is so lazy he would like someone else to brush his teeth for him.
On holidays he lolls around in bed all day or worse, plays games on the computer. I have never seen him do an honest day’s work in my life. Our mother gets very irritated with him and scolds him almost every day for his laziness. My father, I think, has given up on him.
Once, when my mother asked him to make his bed in the morning, he replied that there was no point as it would get crumpled again anyway! As we are two sons, my mother expects us to help her with odd jobs. Sometimes she will ask us to cut vegetables or water the plants. I do it willingly for I can see how hard my mother works. But my brother always finds some excuse to slip away.
ADVERTISEMENTS:
My mother told me that my brother is more like my father. He is also a bit lazy sometimes. He hates helping out in the kitchen if my mother is sick. He’d rather buy food from outside which she doesn’t like, especially if she is ill. If she asks him to repair something he will take ages to do it. But, at least, he does it after a lapse of time.
What he really spends a lot of time on is watching TV. He watches only news channels and political debates. My mother complains that she can’t understand what he finds so interesting about a bunch of old men squabbling like fisherwomen. She doesn’t care much for TV but she reads a lot. Laziness, she feels, is a disease.
She always says that an idle mind is a devil’s workshop and people who have no work to do are very dangerous as they cause trouble for others. To ensure that I don’t become lazy like my brother she encourages me to have many hobbies and sports activities. Lazy people don’t realize that they are wasting their precious life. As the saying goes, time and tide wait for no man. So let us use our time productively.
