Government Colleges
1. IIT DELHI:
The Indian Institute of Technology is a public engineering institution in Delhi. It is located in Hauz Khas, in south Delhi. The campus is in about 320 acres of land and surrounded by monuments like Qutub Minar and Lotus Temple. The campus is divided into four zones:
- The Student Residential Zone
- Staff and faculty Residential Zone
- Student Recreational Area which includes out door games facility.
- Academic area which includes libraries, department offices etc.
The IIT Delhi has about 13 departments. IT has various undergraduate and post graduate programs. It mainly has two semesters, but for some courses, there is an additional summer semester. It is internationally ranked # 212 in the QS World University programs and in India is ranked second by India Today and first by Outlook India.
2. IIT Kharagpur:
This is a public engineering, management and law institution established in 1951. It is recognized as an institute of National Importance by the Indian government. The IIT KGP commonly known as has the largest campus comprising of 2100 acres. Admissions to the IIT KGP are through written entrance examination. They have the undergraduate and postgraduate as well as the doctoral programs.
Internationally the IIT KGP is ranked among the 226-250 range and in India it is ranked the best by the Times Higher Education World University. They have placements for their students at international levels also.
3. IIT Bombay:
This institute is also abbreviated as IITB, is located at Powai, Mumbai. This is the second oldest Institute of the Indian institutes of Technology. It is ranked among the top engineering colleges in India. It was founded in 1958 with the assistance from the UNESCO. Currently, it has near to 14 departments. It offers a wide variety of courses like engineering, management, humanities and design. It is ranked between 301-350 ranks, internationally by the Times Higher Education World university rankings. In India is ranked #3 by Outlook India.
4. IIT Kanpur:
This College was established in 1959 and was created with the assistance of a consortium of nine leading US research Universities as a part of KIAP. IITK has a well built infrastructure for promoting students growth personally. It is internationally ranked #278 in the QS World University rankings. In India it is ranked First by India Today and by Outlook India the fourth.
5. IIT Madras:
This is an autonomous public engineering institution located in Chennai. This is found in 1959 and is a residential institution that comprises of 620 acres of campus. It is easily accessible to the Airport and Railway station. The institute has near to 15 academic departments and advance research centers. It is internationally ranked # 312 in the OS World University rankings and ranked fourth by India Today and fifth by Outlook India.
6. IT-BHU Varanasi:
This institute was founded in 1919 as a part of the Banaras Hindu University. In 2012, it was designated as Indian Institute of Technology. The campus has about 1300 acres at the southern end of Varnasi. This was formerly known as Banaras Engineering College. The IIT BHU offers four year instructional programmes and five years Integrated Dual degree. In rankings, it is ranked the #6 by Outlook India and #7 in India Today’s best engineering colleges.
7. IIT – Guwahati:
This is an autonomous and technology oriented institute, established by the Indian Government which is situated in Guwahati, in the state of Assam. It was established in 1994. The campus is in about 700 acres. In the QS world university rankings, it is ranked around 551 to 600. In India it is ranked 10th by India Today and 8th by Outlook India.
8. DTU Delhi:
DTU is the abbreviation for Delhi Technology University which was formerly known as Delhi College of Engineering. It was established in 1941 and was under the control of Government of India. In 1963, it was affiliated to University of Delhi and in 2009, the college was given a state university status. It has 14 academic departments with strong prominence on scientific and technological education. The college has been ranked #11 by the India Today and # 9 by Outlook India.
9. NIT Tiruchirappalli:
The institute referred to as national institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli is a public engineering and technology University. The institute is located in a campus area of 800 acres on the outskirts of Tiruchirappalli. NITT offers graduate and under graduate courses in sectors like engineering, science, architecture and management. The institute has about 16 departments. It was ranked #9 on the India today and #10 in the Outlook India.
10. ISMU Dhanbad:
ISMU also referred to as Indian School of Mines University is situated about 260km away from Kolkata having a campus of 88 hectares of land. This institution started to instruct mining education and eventually turned into a fully fledged technical institution. It has links with reputed universities across the globe.
Private Colleges
1. BITS PILANI:
This is a deemed University, with its head campus in Pilani. BITS is referred to as Birla Institute Of Technology and Science. It focuses on education in science and engineering. BITS have campuses in Goa, Hyderabad and Dubai. They have 15 departments and the entry is only through entrance examination, which is one a kind in India known as the BITSAT.
2. IIIT Hyderabad:
The university was founded in 1998 and is an autonomous one. IIIT is referred to as The International Institute of Information Technology. It was set up as a research university focused on Information technology areas. They are organized as research centers and labs and not like the department’s kind. They give importance on research studies.
3. BIT Ranchi:
This is an autonomous technology and engineering oriented institute. This institute was initially affiliated to Patna university and then to Ranchi University in 1960 and finally it was made deemed university in 1986. A department for space engineering was first introduced by BIT. BIT has 21 academic departments. It was ranked 16th in the India Today in 2012 and 15th in Outlook India` s Top engineering colleges.
4. PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore:
This is a private engineering college affiliated to Anna university Of Technology, Coimbatore. The college offers about 48 full and part time courses in Management, Engineering and Science. It was founded in 1951 and the only college that has an industry attached to it in India. It was ranked # 14 in India Today’s best engineering colleges in 2012 and # 18 by outlook India.
5. Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal:
The MIT Manipal is a constituent institution of the Manipal University and it has 16 academic departments. This is one among the self financed colleges in India and was established in 1957. The college is in a campus of 180 acres. The MIT uses a credit based system for its students. It was ranked #24 in India Today.
6. Thapar University:
It was formerly known as Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology and is situated in Patiala. The institute was granted the Deemed university status in 1956. It has 250 acre campus. It has been ranked among the top 20 private colleges in India by India Today. It was also ranked #26 in Outlook India.
7. VJTI, Mumbai:
It is also referred as Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute and one among the oldest engineering colleges in Asia. It was initially founded in 1887 and renamed in 1997 to the present name. It is ranked #22 by India Today and # 32 by Outlook India.
8. RVCE, Bangalore:
Rashtreeya Vidyalaya College of Engineering is a private technical college in Bangalore. This college is affiliated to Visvesvaraya technological university, Belgam. This college has twining programmes and has teamwork with many institutions across the world. It is spread over 53 acres of land. The college also offers placements on campus for its students. The college has been ranked #33 in Outlook India.
9. IT, Nirma University Ahemadabad:
This is an autonomous university situated in Ahemadabad. It was established in 1994 and was affiliated to Gujarat University. This institute was ranked # 34 in Outlook India .In 2011 B-School’s survey by CSR-GHRDC; this institute was ranked #19.
10. PESIT, Bangalore:
Also known as People’s Education Society Institute of technology is a private coeducational engineering college. It is affiliated to Visvesvaraya technological university, Belgam. The college has six main blocks, for each section. This college was ranked #35 by Outlook India.
