Short Biography on Justice P.B. Gajendragadkar – Born on March 16, 1901, Justice Gajendragadkar was an M.A., LL.B. and acquired his education in Karnataka and Pune.
In 1951 he presided over the Maharashtra Social Conference in 1953 and in 1954 he was Chairman, Bank Award Commission.
During March-July, 1955 he was Chairman of the Committee on the Re-organisation of Legal Education in the University of Delhi.

He joined the Legal profession in the Bombay Appellate Side Bar in 1926. He was a Judge in Bombay High Court between 1945 and 1957 and became a Judge of Supreme Court in 1957 and Chief Justice of India from February 1, 1964.
Justice Gajendragadkar was closely associated with Indian Law Institute, New Delhi; Indian Institute of Public Administration, New Delhi; Indian School of International Studies, New Delhi, Indian Society of International Law, New Delhi; India International Centre, New Delhi and many other educational and social institutions.
He retired on March 15, 1966. He was Chairman of the First Law Commission of India.
